  Thanksgiving: The lamest of all Holidays...

  I remember as a teenager telling my parents that the prohibition on Thanksgiving was the most difficult one to explain to other kids at school.

  Standard worldly kid retorts were:

  1. "What's wrong with giving thanks to God? Aren't you thankful?"

  2. "Is there something wrong with turkey and stuffing?"

  3. "It's all about getting together with family."

  And the best reply I could come up with was that the original Thanksgiving was somehow an example of "interfaith" and that JWs don't support that. Interfaith?!?

  So finally I would just say, "You know, most JWs agree that No Thanksgiving is probably the most difficult holiday to explain to a non-JW. It only sort-of makes sense to some JWs."

  Translation: You'd have to be a cult member to understand.

  well, i may be overeacting....i may be sensitive.....it may be sad....it may be the silly comments heard at the wt meeting.

  however, there it was in the study article ...a picture of some sad looking, unhappy runners (the kind of look that the org inflicts on us) .

  for the first time i looked at that guy with the wheel barrel.

  designs: "Funny Bethel does not let the Bethelites run in the NYC Marathon..... "

  Since when? I know of at least 4 ex-Bethelites who ran while there. The last couple I knew who ran did so around 2000-2001.

  have anyone of you read, the absolutly jaw dropping paragraph in this article about a women who was hit by her husband?

  its in page 25 of the 2/15/12 wt study edition (i read the dumbed down version).. .

  if there was any question, that the watchtowers stance is for wives to simply take it when their husbands abuse them, this makes it crystal clear.. who the hell is scanning these things before they go to print?

  Many thanks to Jehovah's Celestial Chariot for providing this issue of Watchtower in PDF format on jw.org.

  As a result, I was able to share the two offending paragraphs with a couple of co-workers today.

  Their response? Apalled.

  Way to go Watchtower!

  Actually I am both thrilled and saddened by this paragraph. Thrilled that it may serve as a catalyst to awaken a fence-sitting JW or keep a potential convert away. Saddened that who knows how many JW women will take this third-hand advice and stay in a dangerous situation.

  I never was a Bethelite but on a visit there I'll never forget getting on an elevator in the Executive Offices and an older brother (whose first name was Lyman ) also got on. Two floors down, the elevator stops and a very attractive 30ish sister gets on. Lyman was checking her out all the way down to the lobby.

  I guess that wasn't so disturbing but, for me, who had Lyman on a bit of a demi-god pedestal, it was certainly memorable.
